Embellishing Your Crazy Quilt

Many people love the freedom offered by crazy quilting, because it is not as strict and regimented as standard quilting. But that in no way means the activity doesn’t create something artistic and beautiful as a result. Within the world of crazy quilting, the artistic temperament and skill of the individual is essential to creating something striking.

And it’s this artistic temperament that also chooses which crazy quilt supplies are implemented into the quilt. Of course, the right collection and assortment of fabrics is essential, but other elements can also be included such as buttons, ribbons, lace, and any other elements that will add to the overall aesthetic of the quilt. Just as the fabrics are chosen according to the individual’s personal taste, so too are the embellishments that help to give each crazy quilt its personality.

Matching Fabrics with an Expert Eye

Matching Fabrics with an Expert Eye

When it comes to sewing activities, many people are drawn to crazy quilting. This is because crazy quilting is far different than standard quilting. While standard quilting is all about precision and exact matching symmetry, crazy quilting is much more likely to use scraps of irregular size and shape. For this reason, crazy quilt fabric come from many different sources. While you would have to purchase a full yard or more for standard quilts, it’s entirely possible to use one or two small scraps in a crazy quilt.

This freedom with the size and shape of your fabric means that you have a lot of artistic license when making a crazy quilt. Rather than simply matching color schemes, which is common in quilting, you can now find interesting and unique pairings of textures, colors, and patterns. It takes a creative eye, however, to ensure that the quilt doesn’t look like a total hodgepodge. With that in mind, be aware that the expert pairing of diverse fabrics is something that must be developed over time.

Cheap and Entertaining Hobbies for Recent Retirees

After people retire, they often seek out ways to keep themselves occupied. For that reason, hobbies are a great way to pass the time while doing something that you enjoy. After a lifetime of working hard at your job, retired individuals deserve to spend their days leisurely performing all the activities that they never had time to do when they were working their 9 to 5 job. And if you have any particular skill in the craft arena, there are so many hobbies and options available to you.

One of the most common hobbies for sewing enthusiasts is creating your own clothing or accessories. Take a trip to the thrift store and purchase some clothing with crazy and wild prints. This fabric will make great accents on homemade purses or clothing items. It’s also a lot cheaper than visiting the fabric store itself. And don’t forget that this is also a great way to secure buttons and other fasteners on the cheap. Another popular hobby is making crazy quilts. Again, you can get many of the scraps and materials you need for far less at any number of thrift stores or discount retailers.

Is Crazy Quilting Just Like Quilting?

Is Crazy Quilting Just Like Quilting?

Some people who have heard the term “crazy quilting” erroneously believe it is actually a subset of quilting or a specialized form of that craft. But actually, crazy quilting is a specific type of patchwork, which is entirely different. One of the major differences between the two crafts is that crazy quilts very rarely have an internal layer of batting. This, however, is one of the hallmarks of traditional quilts.

In general, crazy quilting can be understood as a less rigid or regulated form of patchwork. Rather than the larger, uniformly sized pieces of fabric used in standard patchwork, crazy quilting is much more liberal about using small scraps or irregularly shaped pieces. Naturally, this makes fabric of all sizes and patterns one of the most essential pieces of crazy quilting supplies. Depending on your preference, you can either hand appliqué the pieces of fabric or you can sew them together with a standard sewing machine.

Wrapping a Unique Gift

Wrapping a Unique Gift

When it comes to giving gifts, it’s a nice gesture to take care in wrapping the gift.  Even if the gift itself is nothing special, when you take time to wrap a gift, you are telling the recipient that you’re willing to spend time on them.  All gifts should be wrapped with extravagance, and don’t be afraid to get creative.  Make sure to wrap your gift with care, crease the edges of the paper, and make sure there’s as little tape showing as possible.  Grab a silk ribbon and tie it around, and perhaps even tie it on top of a little chocolate treat or candy.  You can also add stickers, write words, or even stamp on a few colorful decals.

When giving a gift, you should also consider the person receiving it; what will they like, what will make them laugh, or feel sentimental?  Also be aware that kids under the age of 13 or 14 probably don’t care what the wrapping is like, it will be on the floor in an instant!

Unusual Quilting Story

Unusual Quilting Story

One day while I was working, I slipped and fell on a floor mat wasn’t secured, and I really injured my lower back.  It hurt for a long time, and I had to take time off work for it to heal.  I also had to go to a chiropractor every week for a couple months.  While I was at home sitting on my rump with not much to do, my mom brought me a couple quilting books and some quilting supplies.  I had never quilted before in my life, so I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out that it was fairly easy to learn, and soon I was quilting all the time and had an activity to keep me occupied while my back healed.

After about a month, I was able to get around like usual, and I continued to enjoy quilting.  Eventually, I joined a quilting club that met a couple times per week, and I met some fun people.  I guess even though it was no fun being disabled, I learned a valuable lesson in the process.

Everybody should have a hobby that they can dabble in.  You can find something to do outside or remain in the comforts of your home.  A quite hobby that you can do is crazy quilting.  It already sounds a lot of fun.Crazy quilting is almost like regular quilting.  Instead of using regular designs to do the patchwork, irregular pieces are used on the base fabric.  It creates an asymmetrical and haphazard look resulting in the name crazy quilting

More embellishments and exotic fabrics can be used and the design can be free flowing.  It really is a different way of showing patchwork.
